What is a Guardian Home?
Our guardian program helps us place one of our puppies or older dogs with a permanent family. In order to continue the enjoyment of breeding and having puppies we will let the dog placed with you have puppies once a year. Each year for about 6 weeks, the dog would come back to us, whelp a litter, then return home to her forever family after the pups have been weaned. You are more than welcome to come and visit your dog when she is at our house with her puppies. We have many dogs who do stay with us for their entire life but unfortunately we are unable to keep everyone and still have puppies. For this reason that we seek guardian homes. We place either a puppy or adult that we would like to continue breeding with into a family home.
After the contract has been fulfilled, the dog will be spayed or neutered. Ownership will be transferred to the guardian family.
For the males, the dog will have to be available to us for breeding at certain times of the year. He can either visit us for a day or we can keep him here for a few days.
How do I know the guardian program is the right committment for me?
If unsure if the program would be suitable for your household talk to us but in addition to asking us questions, research on line about breeding or even borrow dog breeding books from your local Library. We also suggest that you contact a vet that you can explain our program and contract to for their opinion.
Is there a cost for a guardian home?
No, however, you must be willing to work with us to fulfill the contract. You must also be within a few hours drive to us.
How many litters will my dog have?
This depends on the age of the dog. Usually our guardian dogs have 1-4 litters, and males are in the guardian home program until they are 6 years old.
How do I apply to be a guardian home?
There are requirements to be a guardian family. We don't just place our dogs with anyone hoping to get a free dog. We prefer that there is another dog in the family. This is not a requirement but a preference. We do however require that the dog is not left at home for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Our preference is that someone is home for most of the day - a stay at home parent or a retired couple. Our dogs are used to someone being home for the majority of the day. They love attention and love all ages!
